Update as of 9-13-2021:  West Mead Township just recently received a copy of contract wording from the consultant.  After review over the last few days by the Supervisors and Secretary, there are some things that need finalized.  At this time, the contract wording is still be working on prior to releasing it.  A petition against mandatory garbage collection has also been provided to the Township signed by numerous residents.  We are still wanting to hear from anyone interested in providing their comments or concerns.  At this time, there will be no further movement forward and discussion will occur at the Supervisors meeting tomorrow evening.  After the meeting, additional information will be posted and made available.

West Mead Township hosted a second informational seminar on Potential Options for Township Garbage Collection on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the West Mead Township Building, located at 1150 Morgan Village Road, Meadville, PA 16335.

Presenters at this seminar were Brenda Schmidt of the Crawford County Solid Waste Authority and Michele Nestor, consultant at Nestor Resources.  They provided an overview of the current system and provide other possible options for consideration including establishing a Township wide garbage service, recycling options, contract language and specification and a hybrid version of exclusive non-mandatory service options.

The presentation was taped and provided on Armstrong Cable and is also available here on youtube:  Garbage Seminar-2021

There is nothing already decided at this point as the Board of Supervisors want to hear your thoughts and comments on garbage options in the Township.  You can provide comments or questions by email to or by calling 814-336-1271.

At this point, the Supervisors have instructed the consultant to begin drafting a possible contract that would include mandatory garbage service for all Township residents including recycling options and various sizes of totes and cans.  Once further review and discussions are had regarding timing, bidding options and other miscellaneous items, the contract will be put out for bid to obtain pricing and at that time, a decision to move forward would need to occur.

The consultant indicated they would get a draft of the contract back to us around the end of August.  It will be reviewed and further discussion on what to do at that point may take place at the September 14, 2021 Study Session Meeting at 6:00 p.m.

Be sure to check back here for additional information as we will keep updating this information as necessary.
